In a relatively quiet match, FC Cincinnati’s offseason addition made the most noise of the match, scoring in his MLS debut and propelling his team to a 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls.
FC Cincinnati came into their season opener looking very different from last season. They traded away former league MVP Lucho Acosta to Dallas in the offseason but acquired young star Evander and Kevin Denkey to fill the void Acosta leaves behind.
The Red Bulls come into this game with some major roster moves as well but just off an appearance in MLS Cup, coming up just short of a title. They lost key players like John Tolkin and Andres Reyes but brought in a solid veteran in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Both teams would start the match slow, creating opportunities but never really getting close. As the match went on those shots slowly started to get closer to going in, hinting that someone was bound to make a difference.
In the 70th minute DeAndre Yedlin would send a pass to a running Kevin Denkey. Denkey was able to head it into the back of the goal after Red Bulls keeper Carlos Coronel got caught in between staying back or hitting the ball before Denkey.
The score would prove to be the winning goal as the match finished 1-0. Cincinnati can thank their newest addition, Denkey, for three points. They’ll have a quick turnaround, facing FC Motagua in the Concacaf Champions Cup in just four days. The Red Bulls will look to rebound from the loss as they head home to face Nashville next weekend.
