Emil Forsberg netted two goals to lift the New York Red Bulls to an important 2-1 victory over Toronto FC.
The Red Bulls entered the match looking to extend their three game unbeaten streak, including extending their dominant home record against Toronto. New York has won their last seven meetings at home against the Canadian side. Meanwhile, Toronto arrived desperate for a victory, having not won a game since September of last year.
New York was given a chance for an early advantage after Raheem Edwards was fouled in the box by Toronto defender Henry Wingo. Following a VAR review, the Red Bulls were awarded a penalty, and Forsberg stepped up, burying his shot past former NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson. New York carried a 1-0 lead into halftime, determined to build on its momentum.

Toronto found an equalizer in the 70th minute when Deandre Kerr found the back of the net, leveling the score at 1-1. However, the Red Bulls wasted little time reclaiming control. Just six minutes later, Felipe Carballo passed the ball to Forsberg, who found himself alone after Toronto’s defense stopped, believing he was offside. Forsberg made no mistake, getting his second goal of the night and restoring New York’s lead. The goal stood, and the Red Bulls held firm.
While Forsberg holds the spotlight, it was also a memorable night for goalkeeper AJ Marcucci. Making his MLS debut in place of Carlos Coronel, who was away on international duty with Paraguay. Marcucci delivered a well rounded performance, making key saves down the stretch to preserve the Red Bulls’ lead.
With the victory, New York extended its home dominance over Toronto to eight consecutive wins. The Red Bulls now turn their attention to a road clash with the New England Revolution next Saturday. Toronto will continue its search for a long awaited victory when it faces Western Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps.
