Celebrating their 10-year anniversary, New York City FC secured their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Orlando City at Yankee Stadium. With club legends in attendance and a packed home crowd providing electric support, the Boys in Blue delivered a performance worthy of the occasion.

The match began slowly, with both teams struggling to generate clear chances. While NYCFC dominated possession, they couldn't break down Orlando’s defense. The visitors had the best opportunity of the first half when Luis Muriel attacked off an interception, but his shot drifted just wide. The teams entered the halftime break locked in a scoreless draw.

NYCFC emerged from the break with renewed intensity, immediately pressing for the opening goal. Club legend Maxi Moralez nearly put his team ahead with a well-placed shot, but the post denied him. However, Alonso Martínez was quick to react, slotting home the rebound to give NYCFC the lead and marking his second goal of the season.

The advantage was short-lived, as Orlando responded nine minutes later. Muriel, who had been threatening all match, finally found the net, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to bring his team level. Yet, NYCFC wasted no time reclaiming the lead. Just two minutes later, Julián Fernández delivered a pinpoint pass into the box, where Hannes Wolf met it, sending the home crowd into celebration.

The closing stages of the match tested NYCFC’s resilience. In the 86th minute, Kevin O’Toole received his second yellow card, reducing them to 10 men. Despite the disadvantage, NYCFC’s defense stood firm, repelling Orlando’s late attacks and preserving three points. The win came exactly 10 years to the day of NYCFC’s first-ever match—also against Orlando—making the night even more special.

With three points in hand, NYCFC now shifts its focus to next week’s clash against the New England Revolution, aiming to continue momentum. Meanwhile, Orlando will look to bounce back and get revenge in a Eastern Conference Finals rematch against the New York Red Bulls.
